About Us
The Eli Brookens Memorial Fund was established in 2019 in Eli's memory to honor his love of skiing and the peace he found in the mountains. Donations from friends, family and community members helped to establish the fund. Ongoing support from donors as well as the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce star kit sales keep the fund strong.
Funds currently provide financial assistance for 5th through 8th grade students at Crossett Brook Middle School to participate in the Crossett Brook Middle School Winter Sports Program. Funds also support the work of Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, for their work with the program and with other Vermonters.
Our Accomplishments
In the past 4 years, we have provided gear and ski and snowboard rentals to 10-15 students per season through our partnerships with local Waterbury, Vermont businesses, Waterbury Sports and Race Stock. We have also helped to support program fees and bussing when needed.
For the 2023-2024 season, we are providing program support to CMBS, and we have donated to Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, who work with the CBMS program to ensure students of all abilities can participate in the program.
About Eli
Our son, brother, friend, classmate, teammate, Eli Brookens, lost his life in 2016 along with 4 of his friends.
Eli was a passionate soul with a creative force and will to live his life to the fullest. He loved his family, his friends, the great outdoors, and particularly the summits of the Green Mountains. He also loved the soccer pitch, where his inspired play and engagement was recognized by many. He was a mentor to his sister and brothers, and countless younger players and children who looked up to him.
